Coleman was from Lancashire and born in Blackpool. She was a headgirl at Arnold School, Blackpool and was awarded straight A's on her A-levels. When Coleman was asked about her Emmerdale role she replied that she regrets having not had a traditional university experience. Coleman was a part of a theatre company, In Yer Space while during her time at university. The company performed at the Edinburgh Festival for the play Crystal Clear. A prize was given to her for her presentation, while the show was received well. Coleman got the Emmerdale role Jasmine Thomas after auditioning with Drama schools. In 2007, Coleman was awarded two awards. The British Soap Awards she was named Best Newcomer, and at the National Television Awards she was awarded the title of The Most Popular Newcomer. In 2009, at the British Soap Awards she was recognized in categories such as the Best Actress Sexiest Female and Best Dramatic Performance categories. Coleman received a nomination for Best Actress at the TV Choice Awards. Steven Moffat, the producer of Doctor Who confirmed in a 21st March 2012 press conference that Coleman will play Matt Smith's character following the departure of Karen Gillan left. Moffat chose her for the role due to her being the most successful when working with Smith and could speak more rapidly than the actor. Of all the roles Eva has appeared in on television shows, Dr. Maria Santos in All My Children and Detective Natalia Boa Vista' in CSI Miami are the two that make an impression. It was the former that earned Eva two nominations for a 'Daytime Emmy. Additionally, she was able to show off her artistic side via music. Eva, in addition to acting as an actress, is an entrepreneur and philanthropist. She has been married thrice and also has a daughter with her first husband.
