She's reported on various sports for major publications across the globe. The newspaper she worked for was The Washington Post nearly a decade, covering Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football, as well being a basketball reporter at numerous Olympics. Nichols began her career at ESPN at the beginning of 2004. She stayed for 9 years at the network, earning two Emmy Awards. She also featured on the most watched programs on ESPN such as SportsCenter or NFL Countdown. The Monday Night Football coverage as the team's reporter was an integral one of the areas she worked at the network. It was watched by more than a billion viewers across the globe. Nichols covered NBA shows on TNT which included the regular season, playoffs and all-star broadcasts. Nichols also reported on golf, baseball as well as Final Four broadcasts for CBS and TBS. It was the only occasion in the award's 42 year record that a woman is included among the over 200 candidates.
